Battle of the Bands!

Tarrytown Music Hall (TMH) has just announced its first ever “Rock the Hall – A Battle of the Bands.”  Do you have what it takes to win this competition?  Think of it as our own American Idiol right here in Westchester County!  This competition is open to all music genres!  Bands need to submit their best original music/songs by July 15, 2018!  Artists must be 18 years or older to enter, or have the consent of a parent/guardian for a chance to win prizes, amazing exposure and a gig at the Tarrytown Music Hall!

This is a great opportunity for bands in the New York, Connecticut & New Jersey areas! Hey, you never know, who might discover your musical talent! Artists must submit their original songs by July 15, 2018.  Winners will be announced August 15, 2018.  The artist or band must be able to perform at the Tarrytown Music Hall on September 8, 2018.

Competition Information

How To Enter:

  1. Fill out an entry form and pay a $20.00 non-refundable entry fee. 
  2. Include digital access to 3 songs, 2 of the 3 must be original material. Accepted formats include links to artist website, social media, and/or YouTube.

Rules & Regulations:

  • TMH and assigned judges will listen to songs blind (without knowing the name of the band or band members).
  • A total of 4 semi-finalists will be selected and invited to perform at the Rock the Hall Talent Competition on Sept. 8, 2018 at The Tarrytown Music Hall.
  • Each band or solo artist will perform a 20 minute set (songs subject to approval by TMH).
  • Drums and amplification will be provided.
  • Finalists will be judged by a panel of industry professionals whose decisions are final based on the following criteria: Musicianship, Originality, Audience Response, Quality of Sound, Showmanship.
  • Each competing band receives four complementary tickets in order to gain awareness and build their fan-base for the show.
  • All songs performed by the Artist(s) during the contest, attributed to the artists in any media, or used while the band is participating in the contest (original and/or cover songs) must not infringe upon the intellectual property rights, or defame or invade the publicity or privacy rights, of any third party, living or deceased. Creative Materials may not contain “sampling” from other songs, music, sound effects, or any other elements in which the Artists do not have the necessary rights to, title and interest, including copyright.

Winner (1st Place):

  • Opportunity to perform on the stage of The Music Hall in 2018/2019 season
  • Consultation with producer extraordinaire Rob Fraboni (Bob Dylan, The Band, Eric Clapton, The Rolling Stones, Tim Hardin, The Beach Boys, Joe Cocker, and Bonnie Raitt)
  • A half-day of recording/consultation at Shelter Island Sound Studios in New York City
  • A Music Hall promotional poster featuring you and/or your band – a true work of art!
  • $500 Rock Island Sound Gift Certificate
  • Two tickets to the show of your choice for each musician
  • Bragging Rights

Runner’s Up:

  • Recording time at Rock Island Sound Studios
  • $100 Gift Certificate for each band (or artist, $300 in total)

Rob Fraboni, Producer extraordinaire

California-born record producer and audio engineer well known for his work with Bob Dylan, The Band, Eric Clapton, The Rolling Stones, Tim Hardin, The Beach Boys, Joe Cocker, and Bonnie Raitt, and as Vice President at Island Records where he oversaw the remastering of the entire Bob Marley catalog.[2] He produced the soundtrack on Martin Scorsese’s groundbreaking concert movie, The Last Waltz, which included an all-star cast of famous rock and roll performers. He built and designed the legendary Shangri-La studios in Malibu to the specification of Bob Dylan and the Band. Referred to as a “genius” by Keith Richards in his bestselling autobiography Life.

Steve Addabbo, Shelter Island Sound

Steve Addabbo is a Grammy winning producer, musician, writer, recording engineer and owner of Shelter Island Sound Recording in NYC. Steve’s production and engineering work on Suzanne Vega’s first two albums set a new standard for the singer songwriter genre. Suzanne’s second album, “Solitude Standing”, with the worldwide hits “Luka” and “Tom’s Diner” went multiplatinum. Steve also co-produced Shawn Colvin’s Grammy winning debut album, “Steady On.”

Recent projects include mixing the 18 CD 2017 Grammy winning, Bob Dylan “Bootleg 12 The Cutting Edge”; Bob Dylan’s Bootleg X, “Another Self Portrait”, unreleased recordings from 1970, recording Jeff Buckley’s “You and I” from 1993, producing Richard Barone’s “Sorrows and Promises Greenwich Village in the 1960s”, and Steve’s own debut album, “Out of Nothing”.

Scott Seltzer; Music Without Borders

Scott Seltzer, a concert booking and marketing consultant, works with Music Without Borders, which programs many of the events that you see on the Music Hall stage.  Other venues he works with include the South Orange New Jersey Performing Arts Center, Landmark on Main Street in Port Washington, NY and the Garde Arts Center in New London CT, among others. He previously was the Programming Director at the Kirby Center in Wilkes Barre PA, and the General Manager at the Paramount in Peekskill. He has twice been a New Artist Showcase Judge at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival. Always a passionate consumer of live music, he’s also a singer/songwriter in his spare time.
