Lyndhurst Mansion – Defying Labels: New Roles, New Clothes

Exhibit-1024x576

June 15 – September 24 – This year’s re-staging of Lyndhurst’s special exhibition Defying Labels: New Roles New Clothes includes new additions discovered locally and abroad.

The exhibition tells the story of the revolutionary changes in women’s roles from 1880s to 1940 as reflected in the clothes of Helen Gould, Edith Kingdon Gould and Anna Gould, Duchess of Talleyrand, each a relative of railroad baron Jay Gould. With a focus on day wear, the exhibition highlights the development of the design attitudes and vocabulary that are direct precursors to modern dressing. Exhibit entry hours are 10:45 am – 4:00 pm, Thursday through Monday.  Last entry at 4:00 pm
